IT TAKES A VILLAGE

The local area businesses on Hess and George Street have come together to create a magical holiday and winter experience for Hamiltonians. Nestled in the heart of Hamilton’s downtown core, the Hess Village Winter Market will celebrate Hess Village’s rich history and charm, Victorian architecture and cobblestone streets, mixed with the new life brought by current businesses. By partnering with surrounding businesses and local makers, the winter market will showcase Hamilton’s incredible community of artists, entrepreneurs, and restaurateurs and what can be created when we work together.

Let’s get to know Pizzeria Bros on George Street in beautiful Hess Village!

@pizzeriabroshess offers you fresh, fast, and high quality pizzas, sandwiches, appetizers, desserts, wine and beer….perfect for dining in or taking out. With cutting-edge ovens, their Neapolitan-style pizzas are crafted with premium ingredients and baked right before your eyes in just 90 seconds!

After running a successful restaurant in Toronto, Julie was ready for a new adventure. Originally from Montreal, she experienced Pizzeria Bros during a trip home and instantly knew it was something Ontario needed. With fresh ingredients, signature recipes, and lightning-fast service, she saw something truly special. Hess Village turned out to be the perfect spot—drop by for lunch, dinner, late night , or grab your order to go!

Julie’s Favorite? The Miele, topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, soppressata, onions, and a spicy drizzle of homemade spicy honey. But honestly, they’re all amazing!

As a female entrepreneur, Julie’s favorite part of her day is working with her amazing team, meeting new people, watching relationships form over great food, and offering customers a high-quality meal, an exceptional customer experience at an affordable price.

Let’s get to know The Gown & Gavel on Hess. Let’s be real, you know them.

A pillar of Hess Village and Hamilton really, The @gownandgavel was established in 1979, though before this it was a bar called Hesse House, and before that it was owned by a few prominent Hamiltonians. The G&G is well known for being home to Hamilton’s largest outdoor patio bar, incredible pub fare, and Saturday night parties. We’ve all lined up for these!

The Gown & Gavel has seen many evolutions - owners, patrons, and most recently the complete renovation of two adjoining Victorian buildings. So much has changed and much has stayed the same. And you’ll feel that when you go there. Everyone fits in, everyone is welcome, and it’s always a good time.

We will share so much more about the building and its rich history, but for now, some G&G Team Favs:

Memory: Hearing stories about the building and what it’s been a part of. Of course, there’s some party tales, a few old legends from when the buildings were new, and lots of love stories. Young love on a patio night has turned into partners with kids on more than one occasion and how cool is that!

Fact: Did you know G&G had the first patio umbrella in Southern Ontario! What a game changer!

Food: Wings - a classic, the G&G Burger - pretzel and chipotle mayo - yum, and the Buffalo Blasts to start please!

Let’s get to know Selo Cafe on Hess.

A café in the heart of Hess Village with exposed brick and carefully curated moody decor, @selohamilton has quickly become a top cafe destination in Hamilton. By focusing on quality, they source and create only the best in coffee, pastries, sandwiches, and more.

Owner, Simone, was inspired to name the cafe Selo, meaning village in Croatian, where her mother is from, and the cafe has quickly become just that! You can find the cafe bustling daily with people meeting up, working, popping in for lunch, and so many have quickly become regulars. As they grow and expand, expect their full patio to be open, local pop ups, cocktails, and private events!

Simone’s Favs: Vanilla latte and a cheese Burek, which for those of you that haven’t tried is a pastry made from layers of phyllo dough, brushed with melted butter and filled with cheese

Let’s get to know the Electric Diner on George.

Nostalgic for the 80’s, @electricdinerhamont pays homage to the days of blockbusters, milkshakes, and neon colours and it shows. Everything from the menu to the decor to the vibe is 80’s and we are here for it! By using quality ingredients to make fun menu items, customers can get a retro homestyle meal and a gourmet restaurant experience all in one place. From morning until night, brunch, lunch and dinner, they are most famous for their throwback stacked pancakes, smashburgers, and fun cocktails.

Owners Erika and Jamie, a husband and wife duo, opened Electric Diner over 5 years ago after owning a pub and wanted to create their own place from start to finish. With Erika’s background in Marketing & Events and Jamie being a trained Chef, they couldn’t be a better team or prouder of their very first restaurant together, The Electric Diner on George St.

Erika’s Favs: Turtle Power Bowl (you will never feel hungry after this amazing vegetarian bowl- can even be vegan upon request!) and Cheeseburger fries (everything you love on a cheeseburger, topped on a plate of our signature crispy thin fries.. nothing like it!)

Jamie’s Favs: Axel Foley Burger (goat cheese, blistered jalapeños. Smashed avocado and thick cut bacon…) and Grilled Cheese Benny (two mini grilled cheese sandwiches topped with tomato soup hollandaise and perfectly poached eggs!)

Let’s get to know The Heavy Metal Club on Hess.

Have you heard of permanent jewelry? Clasp-less and welded on, it’s intended to be worn indefinitely! And that’s what @theheavymetalclub specialty is!

Co-Owner, Alannah, took over the second floor of 29 Hess in July wanting to share her love of gorgeous jewelry with others and has found so much more. Appointments are so meaningful and the stories behind permanent pieces are wonderful. Mother of two and lover of people in general, the stories exchanged and the human connection has been more fulfilling than she ever dreamed.

In addition to permanent jewelry, there are local products available for purchase. Hoping to feature more local makers in her space, Alannah’s journey is only just beginning!

Hamilton deserves a beautiful winter market and we couldn’t be more proud and excited to share our beautiful community with you all! Pulling together an event like this takes a village, and we have one here.

The market is just one part of our winter experience, more to come! But think cozy sweaters and photo ops, shopping local for holiday gifts, and exclusive offers at your favourite Hess businesses all while supporting Hamilton’s children and youth through the @charityofhope

Let’s get to know Andiamo
Barbershop on George.

Known for their cuts, coffee, and cocktails, @andiamohamilton has really nailed the traditional barbershop meets modern amenities vibe. Specializing in barber style haircuts for everyone!

Andiamo is Italian for “let’s go” and pays homage to owner, Dre’s heritage, having grown up in an Italian family in Hamilton. Dre’s father, also a small business owner, owned a business in Hamilton for 30 years and with the support of his family, wife, and young son, he proudly followed in those footsteps.

Nestled away on George Street, Hess Village is a perfect place for Andiamo. Clients can come for the best cut in town and if they have time, bring their family and stay for a drink.

We’d like to reintroduce you to Moodys Pizza Bar & Arcade and Amigos Tex-Mex on George Street in Hess Village!

@moodyshamont serves sourdough pizza, Italian sandies, pasta, chicken parm, and if that’s not enough their second story is home to Hamilton’s only 80’s arcade. @amigoshamont specializes in burritos, nachos, tacos - you get the picture. Both serve beer and cocktails AND have late night happy hours Friday & Saturday!

Fun fact! Located in two gorgeous Victorian buildings, Amigos was originally built for John Moodie (yes, we see the irony here) who brought the first car to Hamilton!

Both businesses are owned by Tate and Leanne, good friends and business partners for over 5 years! Why did they pick Hess Village? Simple. “It’s the most beautiful pocket of Hamilton.”

Tate’s Favs: Moodys chicken parm wings and hot mortadella sandwich and Amigos Birria tacos, beef or mushroom - dealer’s choice.

Leanne’s Favs: Moodys Mac Daddy pizza and all of Amigos cruncho wraps.
